About Ironman BJ

BJ is a native of Longmeadow, MA. On July 28th, 2005, BJ was 21, and on the way home from a summer job. The driver was driving west on the MassPike and towing construction gear when he lost control of the truck.  When the driver lost control BJ was ejected from the truck through the passenger door.

When BJ awoke in the hospital he soon learned about his injuries which included changes with his sense of taste, smell, equilibrium and balance, along with occasional migraines.

One night after watching the "Team Hoyt" story everything finally changed for the best. BJ was so inspired by the father and son duo Dick and Rick Hoyt that he woke the next morning and registered for his first marathon. Since that day BJ has become inspired and motivated again!

BJ’s recovery has been nothing short of miraculous. Although he’s had to hang up his hockey skates and let go of his dreams of ever playing professional hockey, he is now competing in new arenas – running marathons, competing in Ironman triathlons and taking on crazy endurance events!

Since that first marathon on February 25, 2007, BJ has competed in over 140 road races including 21 half marathons, 13 marathons, 8 Ironman triathlons, and running in 3 Boston Marathons as a member of Team Hoyt!

BJ is a brain injury survivor and participates in events like these to inspire individuals and give them the confidence and motivation they need to achieve their goals in life. BJ realizes that his car crash could have ended a lot worse. Because of this, he is now jumping at every opportunity and living his life to the fullest!
